E' brutto dirlo, ma il thriller al'italiana รจ davvero morto e sepolto, e i pochi tentativi di resurrezione sono penosi e confusionari. Gli emuli di Fulci o Argento sono parecchi, ma i risultati scarsi. Ci prova Bessoni con un'idea non originale e scimmiottata proprio da Dario Argento in "Quattro mosche di velluto grigio". Presso una scuola di cinema, in un luogo e un tempo non precisato, il giovane studente Bruno, prova a dimenticare i recenti drammi familiari puntando tutto sulla sua carriera cinematografica. Un giorno, mentre stava fotografando un soggetto, Bruno rimane colpito da una visione di un ragazzo-fantasma. L'ectoplasma indica a Bruno la strada per trovare un misterioso congegno, chiamato "thanatografo", che permette di fotografare l'ultima immagine vista da un morto estrapolandola from the retina.
