We are in a fortunate time, admittedly. A few years ago the good old murderess was a stark murderer, he killed with his bare hands, exposing themselves and risking his own. Today, the web-cam and the Internet provide the ability to kill from the comfort of your own home network, and perhaps put in some time after the murder. Seriously, technological innovation has significantly changed the thriller. Think of Saw 2, where the puzzle "rubbed" the police thanks to his recordings, o addirittura il buon Dario Argento ne "Il Cartaio" (uno dei suoi più brutti film) ha utilizzato internet per la partita a poker col killer. "Nella rete del serial killer" gioca con internet con maestria, in maniera innovativa.
Jennifer Marsh (Diane Lane) è una poliziotta della divisione informatica di Portland. Una notte, mentre naviga su internet alla ricerca di maniaci e truffatori, si imbatte in un curioso sito che si chiama "Killwithme.com". Nel sito si vede un filmato di un gatto che viene torturato fino alla morte, in proprorzione agli accessi sul sito. Ma quando dagli animali si passa agli uomini, inizia la caccia al perverso killer, che uccide grazie ai click dei curiosi.
Certo, non parliamo di un capolavoro, però è ben fatto e vi coinvolgerà fino alla fine. Anche se... quando l'assassino si nascondeva tra i quadri o le bambole...era tutta un'altra cosa.
